MFET 474, Lab #4 page 1 of 7 MFET 474 Laboratory Assignment #4 Fall ‘09 Introduction to the PowerFlex 70, Part 2 Objectives: In this assignment you will learn how to: Wire a PLC analog output to an AC motor drive analog input. Wire an AC motor drive analog output to a PLC analog input. Configure and use a ControlLogix analog output module (1756-OF8A). Scale data to engineering units for both PLC inputs and PLC outputs. Preparation: It is assumed you have finished the following laboratory assignments: Lab #1 – Working with ControlLogix Analog Input Data Lab #3 – Introduction to the PowerFlex 70, Part 1 The following manuals are available on our course web site: ControlLogix Analog I/O Modules PowerFlex 70 – User Manual Background: The PowerFlex 70 AC variable speed drives are powered using 208 VAC. In this lab assignment it is very important that you follow the directions carefully and do not expose yourself to electrical shock. Whenever you are working with the PowerFlex 70 the following rule must be observed: When the PowerFlex 70’s cover is removed, the disconnect must be switched OFF AND locked in the OFF position. Your Instructor will show you where the main disconnect is located.

MFET 474, Lab #4 page 2 of 7 Phase 1: In this phase you will get familiar with the ControlLogix analog output module. In this phase you will NOT wire a PLC analog output to the PowerFlex70 AC drive. You will generate an analog output and then verify the output with a voltmeter. The analog output will be wired to the PowerFlex 70 in phase 2. To accomplish this phase, the PowerFlex 70 does NOT have to be powered up. A few questions: What is the catalog number of the ControlLogix analog output module we are using in our laboratory? Ans. __________________________________ With respect to our analog output module, how many analog outputs does it support? Ans. __________________________________ Does our analog output module support both current and voltage outputs (Yes or No)? Ans. __________________________________ With respect to voltage, what output ranges are available on our analog output module? Ans. __________________________________
