Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Definition: Wireless Broadband is a fairly new technology that provides high-speed wireless internet and data network access over a wide area. Can be used where Cable or xDSL is not available, but can also be a competitive technology. Mobility is usually not a consideration. Heavily used outside the United States. Huge markets in China and other Asian Countries, Africa, Europe…Worldwide! MULTI-Billion dollar industry in equipment and services. U.S. Broadband Stimulus Plan will pump BILLIONS more into rural networks. Often provided by a Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP). A WISP may cover hundreds of square miles. WISP’s may have one, or dozens of high-sites (towers, silos, etc.) with Access Points (AP) mounted on them.
