3. What are the components of a database? A database is not useful by itself because it is just a set of data. The data must be put into a form in order to work with a purpose. The components of a database application system are user; database; DBMS; database application. DBMS is database management systems. DBMS is a program used to create, process and administer a database. Popular DBMS are DB2 from IBM, Access and SQL Server from Microsoft and Oracle from Oracle Corp. SQL stands for structured query languages. 4. How do database applications make databases more useful? Database application is a collection of forms, reports, queries and application programs that process a database. A database may have one or more applications and each application may have one or more user. Lost update problem explains the problems that a multiuser processor does not update correctly. The logic of the underlying application processing needs to be adjusted as well. Two broad categories of DBMS consist of enterprise and personal. 5.
