CHE113 Forensic Science Nicolas Canel Forensic Science Introduction 1690 Medicine -Doctors - Not highly regarded. -“Day Job”?? - Also were barbers 1690 Medicine - King Henry VIII signed a decree merging two groups into the Great Company of Barbers and Surgeons. -Internal Illness: human body incorporated four different “humours”: -Blood (hot) -Phlegm (cold) -yellow bile (or choler, dry) -black bile (melancholy, wet). -Illness was cause by an imbalance in these humors Salem Witch Trials -June through September of 1692: -nineteen men and women, convicted of witchcraft, were hung on Gallows Hill near -Salem Village. -An 80-yr. old man - pressed to death under heavy stones for refusing to submit to a witchcraft trial. -Hundreds of others faced accusations of witchcraft. -Dozens languished in jail for months without trials. -Late 1692, the hysteria that swept through Puritan Massachusetts ended.
