Teeth Our dental formula is 2-1-2-3 (Incisors, canine, pre-molars, molars); other species have much larger canine teeth—the more sexually dimorphic, the larger the canine teeth. Skeletal Differences: We have no tails (minus a few exceptions) Foramen Magnum: dog’s/cow’s primary mass is in the front, which orients them forward; monkeys are slightly forward; humans are oriented upright bipedal walking Residual from ape evolution: good for brachiating Thumb Big Toe: moved up toward the front—provides thrust rather than grasping. Primate Characteristic Reproduction & care of young is quite different: in other species females go into estrus only seasonally. Bonobos and humans differ from seasonal sexuality; however, Bonobos have visible estrus as well. The bigger the species, the longer sexual reproduction maturation takes. Humans have a long-term parental investment; apes, not so much. Genetics: have revealed that we are 1% different from other great apes Family: pongidae vs hominidae Hominids : all of the great apes, except for humans
