Accounting Information Systems (Eleventh Edition), Romney and Steinbart, Prentice Hall, 2009 – ISBN 0558934595 Note: The ISBN listed above is a condensed version of the text that was created to save on cost for the students, however, the original hard copy version of the text will also suffice for the course please just make sure you get both the Romney text as well as the Quickbooks Pro manual listed below. 2. Learning QuickBooks Pro 2010, Brunsdon, Prentice Hall, 2010 (w/ software). COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course is intended to be an in-depth study of the application of information systems knowledge to the accounting environment. Emphasis is on developing students' abilities to understand the processing of accounting data in a computer-based environment and the controls that are necessary to assure the accuracy and reliability of the data processed by the accounting system. Students will learn about the role of information systems in business, the development and control of information systems, and the application of information systems to the various transaction cycles of the firm. Students will also learn how to use a popular accounting software package. They will be required to complete a series of assignments using QuickBooks Pro 2010. PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of ACIS 2504, 2116 ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance may not be taken on a regular basis. However, students are strongly encouraged to attend class. In the past, students that have regularly attended my classes have significantly outperformed students that did not. Should you have to miss a class period, it is YOUR responsibility to get your assignments turned in ON TIME and to find out what you missed. You should contact one of your classmates, to find out what you missed. If you must miss class for an extended period of time due to extenuating circumstances, please discuss your situation with someone in the Pamplin College of Business Undergraduate Programs Office in PAM 1046.
