Carly Geller Section 303 2/1/12 Reaction #2 In this week’s readings, the concept of sustainability clearly stuck out. Reading these words made me realize how awful of a job our world does in maintaining sustainable development. The amount of excess materials that we use is massive and I can only imagine that amount to excessive waste that is generated. I feel as if we can all take action in our lives, whether it be to the extreme of John Francis’s in Planet Walker or simply starting to drive as little as possible or reusing water bottles. After reading John Francis’s story, I thought it was very odd to live the way he did. However, after his inspiring seminar during class, I gained a new respect for John. Footprints and Sustainability helped me truly understand what sustainability is because sadly and quite embarrassingly of me, before reading this chapter, the definition of sustainability was unclear to me.
