Carly Geller 2/24/12 Danny Spitzberg ES112 The Problem With Freedom Reaction #5 This week’s reading and lecture prompted me to start thinking about the selfishness of the population on our planet. We, as citizens, are living our lives extremely self absorbed, while, in reality, we need to be “earth centered”. It is our responsibility to not pollute the world, but we do. It is our responsibility to have a reasonable consumption level, but we do not. Yes, maybe we do have good intentions, but we fail at these trials to consume a less abundant amount. The power of social competition, which I will explain later, seems to take over our thoughts as to what is really important in our lives. Also, we have been given so much freedom, especially with the use of fossil fuels, that we have gotten out of line with our level of consumption. Innovations and regulations must be made and played out. When will we finally get the hint? What does it take for us to finally realize how much harm we are actually causing our land? No one seems to care
