Alex Hilliard Joy Palmer English 101-047 Reading Response Unit 1 Michiko Kakutani talked about political correctness and if words should be changed so they aren’t biased and refer to men. Kakutani actually starts talking about the “average man” and corrects by saying “sorry, individual”. By saying that it proves that it is just a habit for the population, as a whole, to be referred to as “man” or the male gender. Even trying to change the term battered wife to saying battered spouse because men and women are supposedly equally battered just doesn’t sound right. In my opinion women get battered more by their husbands than vice versa. I am not saying that mean are not battered by their wives or spouse, I know it happens. Changing words to make it more “convenient” so it doesn’t bother just a few people is unnecessary. Kakutani states that on university campuses blacks have been wanting to the “N”
