Human Development Indicators - UN - Describe the human development index o Looks at human development beyond GDP o Provides a composite measure of three dimensions of human development o However, it does not include indicators such as respect for human rights, democracy, and nor equality o Provides a broadened view of human progress and the complex relationship between income and well-being o Globalization: when one country is on the rise, it brings up others o The HDI tends to rise and fall with income o HDI reflects the positive association between income on one side and health and education on the other Also, draws attention to the fact that some countries are better at turning wealth into opportunities for health and education than others are o HDI provides a snapshot of the average national performance in human development Averages can be obscured by large disparities within countries - Describe the three dimensions of human development used in the index o Living a long and healthy life (measured by life expectancy)
