2 Objective: To get a layout (assembly line) with minimum number of stations for a specified target cycle time. Procedure : Start with the precedence diagram . Determine target CT (given a required production rate) .—round down Calculate min # of stations (Total tax time/target CT)- round up Select priority rule (SPT, LPT, RPW) and tie-breaking rule . Start with work station 1. Include as many eligible tasks as possible in each work station without accumulative time exceeding target cycle time . If a task cannot be selected, try next one. If accumulative time exceed targeted CT, create a new station. If all tasks have been included, stop. Assembly Line Balancing (ALB) - Review Eligible task : A task is eligible if all tasks that precede this task have been selected and there are no other restrictions.
