After lengthy period of decline, rates for many infectious diseases began to increase again in poorest parts of the world New infectious diseases also emerged Since late 1990s, renewed focus on need to respond to health problems Health now seen as something that needed to be addressed at the global scale Global health—growing interest—now mentioned in many academic articles Global Health and Security “New and reemerging infectious diseases will pose a rising global health threat and will
