Internet Databases Lavora Moses Axia College of University of Phoenix Instructor: Kimberly Kirby-Bass HCR/210 There are several pros and cons with medical information being electronically stored in an internet database, which does not limit the use of doctor’s office and patient records. Some issues with electronically stored medical records in an internet database is that not ever healthcare provider in the United States are keeping patient records in an electronic format. Other concerns are about the security and privacy of patient records (Keller, 2007). Patient records being stolen, sold to the highest bidder, or even used as blackmail is another concern with patients (Macdonald, 2007). Identity theft and fraud are also a concern with patient records. There are some benefits to medical information being stored electronically in an internet database, such as; the quality of care could improve and costs decrease when the patient’s health information is available over the internet to them and those who care for them.
