Reference: Chemistry 1022 Lab Manual, 2 nd Edition 11-13~11-19 Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to understand and apply the knowledge of integrated rate laws by analyzing a set of absorbance versus time data. Procedure: Part IIA 1. Convert absorbance values to concentrations and prepare columns of [A], ln[A], and 1/[A]. 2. Graph [A], ln[A], and 1/[A] versus time data. 3. Use R 2 to select the order. Part IIB 1. Use the data constant determined at 298 K, enter the value k in cell H5 of the spreadsheet. In cell J5, enter “=1/(I5)”. 2. Copy this formula. Column J has values equal to one over the absolute temperature. 3. In cell K5, enter “LN(H5)”. 4. Copy this formula in the cells down to and including K9. The values in column K should be equal to the natural logarithm of the rate constant at each temperature. 5. Graph ln k vs. 1/T. Results: According to the data collected in this experiment, the complete rate law for set #3 is 0.0003, while the half-life is 1.73s. The activation energy, E a , is 6840.01, while the frequency factor, A, is 2789368.009. For set #4, the complete rate law is 82.159 * [A] 2 , while the half-life is 18.82s. The activation energy, E a , is 26000.3722, while the frequency factor, A, is 2966673.045.
