The Science of Nutrition (Module 1) A- Describe the major aspects of nutrition labeling regulations. List the information that must be displayed on food labels. Nutrition labeling helps consumer understanding better the food they eat; with the food labels consumer can make an informative decision before they purchase food. The FDA required that almost every food product carries a food label “except those contributing a few nutrients like coffee, tea and spices and also those produced by small business” (p.53). According to the Food and Drug Administration Department guidelines every product that requires being label should list the following information: Name and address of the manufacturer, packer or distributor, name of the product, the ingredient list which contains the listing of each ingredient in descending order of predominance and the nutrition label which contains the general information of the products as well as its nutrient declarations (FDA).
