Today’s college students are under heavy pressure to succeed and undergrads face the difficulties of navigating college life in addition to it. As thus, it isn’t surprising that according to 2015-16 survey data from the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors “51 percent of students whovisited a counseling center reported having anxiety, followed by depression (41 percent), relationship concerns (34 percent) and suicidal ideation (20.5 percent). Many students reported experiencing multiple conditions at once.”(Tate, “Anxiety on the Rise”) In order to improve the mental health of college students, colleges need to improve their counseling programs and teach students emotional intelligence/coping strategies.
