Class 1 I. Why is there a lab requirement in Harpur College even for students who are not science majors? We all need to be scientifically literate – even if we do not plan a career in science. Many of our decisions are made based on scientific research - so we need to understand how the work is conducted in order to think critically about it. Examples: 1. Health issues 2. Political beliefs 3. Educational beliefs Information on all these topics is readily available – just need to Google it. But then we need to critically evaluate what we read! Understanding the methodology of research is the only way to think critically about the information you encounter.
