Bio 348: Body Organization and Terminology Exercise Body Organization and Terminology ASSIGNMENT: 1. ADAM assignment (see below) 2. Introduction to Anatomical Terminology Use the human torso model, textbooks and each other to complete the questions in the worksheet . Turn in to your T.A. for grading, or correct your own by using the posted answers. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize and define the terms used to describe relative positions, body sections, body regions, and normal and pathological states in human health. 2. Describe the locations of the major body cavities; describe the bilayer organization of the membranes and describe the organs associated with each cavity. MODELS: Human torso model (manikin) DEMONSTRATION: (optional) Video: Human Skeleton (first section begins with terms describing body positions and planes) Video: Landscapes and Interiors A.D.A.M.: 1. After opening the program, double click on the human figure that appears in anatomical position , facing forward with palms also facing forward (hands supinated). Rotate the figure using the selections available after clicking on the View button in the toolbar at the left of the primary window: anterior, lateral, posterior, and medial. If you do not see the full figure, click on the Zoom tool to zoom out. 2. Scroll in the Structure List at the top of the window, and select Sternum. Note that the Depth Bar has changed position, and the Layer Indicator reads 158. The sternum will appear in color (highlighted), while the rest of the figure will be in black and white. Select Normal Mode by clicking on the “plain” lightbulb in the toolbar. Click on a variety of bony structures to identify some of the organs in the Skeletal System. Similary, select the following from the Structure List to explore the other organ systems: (Note: you can navigate through the structure list faster by typing the first few letters of the structure you want to see.) a. External abdominal oblique muscle (Muscular System) b. Sciatic nerve (Nervous System)
