Lab I EXPERIMENT 37 EFFECT OF CONCENTRATION ON REACTION RATE 1/4 OBJECTIVES At the end of this experiment you should be able to: Collect and analyze the reaction rate data. Study the effect of concentration change on reaction rate. Plot the data for clear representation of the measured variables. Draw conclusions relating the experimental aims to the results. THE REACTION SYSTEM You will be measuring the kinetic parameters, i.e., the order and rate constant of Landolt iodine clock reaction. There are many variations of this reaction system, you will be working on the following set of reactions: ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± ± The first reaction produces I 2 which is very quickly consumed by the second reaction. By the time S 2 O 3 2- ions are depleted from the reaction mixture, the excess I 2 accumulates in the solution. I 2 reacts with starch to give a deep blue color. You will be observing the time it takes for the color change and use this to measure the kinetic parameters of this reaction system. PRELIMINARY WORK
