2 GROUP CASE STUDY: WALMART Executive Summary Walmart, a giant retailer, operates in 27 countries and has approximately 11,500 stores across the globe. Ten of the countries it operates in have e-commerce services that provide a wide variety of products and services. As a result of its diversified products and services, the mass retailer caters to diverse customers. With a focus on continuous improvement and growth, Walmart has earned its status as the largest retailer in the world. Existing Mission, Objectives, and Strategies Walmart’s goal is to offer low prices, which help people live better lives as they save money (Our Business, 2020). The mission is directly correlated to the company’s Every Day Low Price (EDLP) focus, which, according to its corporate website, is the cornerstone of its strategy (Our Business, 2020). Many of its stores serve as a one-stop-shop for virtually everything individuals may need for the home and personal needs; the convenience of such a retail model continues to help the company maintain its stronghold as a retailer. Both domestically and internationally, Walmart has focused on “cautious growth” while balancing the desire to provide quality service and products at affordable prices in a convenient fashion (Xie & Cooke, 2018). Its cost-leadership strategy keeps prices low; its sustainability strategy works to minimize waste and increase environmental awareness and protection, and its HR strategies strive to foster employee satisfaction and organizational commitment (Xie & Cooke, 2018). New Mission Statement Customers Due to the wide variety of products that Walmart offers, their customer base is diverse as they cater for different age groups. A study performed by Dages, Li, and Moore (2016) found that 60% of the customers Walmart receives have an annual income that is below $50,000. The
