EE 367 Introduction to Microprocessors (Fall 2011) Solution Set, Homework 2 I.A Here are several answers a) Power Supply (voltage on Vcc and ground pins) b) Is any chip hot to the touch, indicating that an output may be faulted to Vcc or ground, or that 2 outputs are bucking. c) Check all pins for forbidden voltages (this will catch input pins that are floating). I.B A floating input is an input signal to a chip that is not connected to any signal source. Signal sources are Vcc or ground and output signals of other chips. Floating inputs introduce the worst circuit problems, such as signal which is high at random times and low at random times. Such a signal can cause errors at random times. A floating input can be detected by examining the voltage on every input pin, looking for voltages in the forbidden voltage range. II: Text problems: 2.14, 2.15, 2.16, 2.24 2.14, A data bus is a parallel group of connections, each of which carries the signal of one data bit. Common data bus widths today are 8, 16, 32 and 64 bits.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
