Brian Lau English 200 D Andrew McNair 4-11-07 Reading Response #5 The relationship between Sleep and Poetry as illustrated by John Keats in “Sleep and Poetry” is that sleep is like poetry because sleep is the “Soft closer of our eyes! Low murmurer of tender lullabies!” Keats is saying that sleep is something that relaxes a person and relieves their stress. And in a sense, I think Keats describes poetry as art and that it gives the same sensations because when a person gazes at art, they don’t think of stressful situations. They look at art and try to interpret it; Most of the time there is no wrong or right answer to art. I think the two types of poetry he sees himself writing are those that bring him happiness and those that bring others happiness. Keats probably knows what can bring him happiness, but I think he feels it a personal obligation to tell others of this great feeling. In lines 35-44, Keats brings up a reference to God. That is to crown our name when life is ended.
