Resistor Color Code, Voltage, and the DMM Introduction The purpose of this part of the lab was to measure the resistance of different resistors and compare their measured values with the color code values of each resistor. In this section of the lab first, resistance values from the color code were read, then, a DMM was used to measure the actual resistance. Procedure For this part of the lab the equipments used were: Five resistors with different color code, A circuit board on which the five resistors will be placed, A DMM, to measure the actual resistance, and some voltages. 1-35 VDC power supply and a battery. First, the five resistors with different color codes were fixed on the circuit board to quickly build the circuit components. Then the DMM were turned on and changed to the resistor mode so that it will be able to measure the resistance of the resistors. After the DMM is set, two wires (red and black) were linked between the ends of the resistors and the DMM. The red wire was attached to the terminal marked VΩHz and the black wire to the terminal marked COM. Picture 1 – How to connect DMM to a resistor. Then using the resistors color code the resistance of each resistor was calculated. For example, for resistor one the calculated tolerance is 2.55% and the rated resistance was between -5% and 5%. This is true for the other four resistors too. 2.
