Notes on Brian Nattrass and Mary Altomare’s A New Framework for Management: Taking the natural step for business is both simple and complex. It is simple in the sense that it is the integration of natural systems and natural laws into business practices. It is also complex because it requires re-thinking many of the fundamental assumptions, and in many cases involves re-designing products, processes, and systems that form the core of business. This is business in the 21 st century. There is reference to Carl Frankel’s writings, and focuses more on the fourth era of corporate environmentalism; sustainable development. He says Frankel suggests four keystones of this new era: - Progress toward zero waste : rather than seeking to reduce waste, companies will come as close as possible to eliminating it altogether. - Whole systems thinking : addressing problems at the level of their entire system, rather than
