Brian Lau English 200 D Andrew McNair 5/02/07 Reading Response #11 After reading the first chapter of “Swann’s Way,” I found it a bit confusing in trying to analyze the story. There are some things that recur a lot in the story, but once again, I’m not sure I know why. First off, the thing that comes to my attention most is how the narrator is always obsessed and infatuated with getting and giving kisses to and from his mother. It doesn’t really hint on how old the narrator is, but I think he is a kid that has already passed puberty. The narrative seems to be of a high level of understanding. The story started out with the narrator having a lot of dreams. When I first read the story, I thought the narrator was an adult because he seemed to have servants and he seemed to have a really fond memory of a woman. Sometimes, Eve was born from one of Adam’s rib, a woman was born during sleep from a cramped position of my thigh. Formed from the pleasure I was on the point of enjoying,
