ORIE 4580/5580 Homework Assignment 9 Due by Nov. 18, 11:00 am, in the drop-box located on the second floor of Rhodes Hall. 1. Sit&Relax Co. manufactures customized chairs. The orders for chairs arrive according to a Poisson process with rate 1/60 minutes -1 . As soon as an order is received, it is put in an order queue and the orders are served in FIFO order. Each order goes through three operations: Cutting, sanding and painting. The time that is required for cutting is uniformly distributed over [15, 25]. The time that is required for sanding is uniformly distributed over [20, 28]. The capacities of the cutting and sanding machines are 1. The painting operation is carried out in an oven in batches of 5 chairs. Therefore, after the sanding operation, the chairs are collected in a staging area to form batches of 5 chairs. As soon as a batch is formed, the batch is painted in the oven. The time required to paint each batch is uniformly distributed over [100, 140]. After the painting operation, each order moves to the shipping queue separately . A shipping clerk stamps each order and ships it. The time that the clerk spends on each order is uniformly distributed over [3, 7]. Build a ProModel simulation model for this system, turn in the text description of your model and answer the following questions: a) Run the model for one replication for 40 hours. What is the utilization of the oven?
