Nathan Hoch BWS 265 Dr. Coates Response Paper 3 Dr. Applebaum presented a very interesting discussion on aging in our society. He covered a great deal of information in his talk, and he put a very large emphasis on a few areas I thought were interesting. He said that for the first time in our history we have an aging society. This is unique because for the first time we are living longer and that means that there will need to be more people willing to help aid the aging in our society. He said there are roughly 6,000,000 “older” people nationwide that have a disability and that number is going to keep increasing fairly drastically. This means jobs for those who are younger, but it also means a lot of work because there needs to be an increase in medical personnel so this issue can be handled properly. A way of addressing the increased in disability is to continue down the path of medicine and technology to decrease disability in people over 60 which has been done since 1980.
