This experiment was conducted to introduce the field of Thermodynamics. This lab also introduces the concepts of Calorimetry and Hess’s Law. With this lab, we can calculate the enthalpy of a reaction. This lab also reiterates the basic measuring techniques and how to make a constant pressure calorimeter. Procedure: The procedure was followed directly from this link: http://www.chem.fsu.edu/chemlab/chm1045lmanual/calorimetry/procedure.html . There was no deviation from that procedure Data: Time (minutes) Experiment 1A Hot and Cold Water (˚C) Experiment 2A Hot and Cold Water (˚C) Experiment B HCl and Mg Strips (˚C) Experiment C HCl and MgO (˚C) 0:30 22.0 23.0 23.0 23.0 1:00 22.0 23.0 23.0 23.0 1:30 22.0 23.0 23.0 23.0 2:00 37.0 36.0 26.2 24.0 2:30 36.0 37.0 26.5 26.5 3:00 36.0 36.5 26.5 29.1 3:30 35.0 36.1 26.0 30.0 4:00 35.0 36.0 26.2 30.5 4:30 35.0 36.0 26.2 31.0 5:00 35.0 35.2 26.3 32.0 5:30 35.0 35.1 26.3 32.0 6:00 34.7 35.0 26.3 32.5 6:30 34.2 35.0 26.3 32.5 7:00 34.0 34.9 26.0 32.9 7:30 34.0 34.9 26.0 32.9 8:00 34.0 34.6 26.0 33.0 8:30 34.0 34.5 26.0 33.5 9:00 33.9 34.2 26.0 34.0 9:30 33.2 34.0 26.0 34.0 10:00 33.0 33.9 25.9 34.0
