II [ CHM4411-02 ] Spring 2012 Instructor: Hedi Mattoussi (Office: CSL 4006, Email: mattoussi@chem.fsu.edu) Location: HCB 215 Time: MWF, 10:10-11:00AM Office Hours: Mon. and Wed. 11:30-1:00 Objective: the overall objective of this course is to provide students with some of the basic concepts that govern quantum mechanics (i.e., when does it apply, how it is applied, what differentiates it from classical mechanics) and its application to few specific examples. These include concepts such as: the failure of classical mechanics to explain certain results reported at the end of 1800s, the wave particle duality, to the notion of energy quantization, wavefunction associated with a particle, quantization of translational motion, vibration motion, rotational motion, the hydrogen atom, . ..
