Week 2 Discussion Questions 1. What are the components of the CPU and what do they do? The CPU is has three main parts and do certain things. First, the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) does mathematic calculations, and makes logical comparisons. Second, the Control Unit can execute or store the results coming out of the ALU. Third, the Registers which stores the data that is to be executed next. There is also Primary Storage also known as the main memory, it stores three types of data for short periods of time, data to be processed by the CPU, instructions for the CPU as to how to process the data, and operating system programs that manage various aspects of the computer’s operation.
