Weight Training Review Define the following terms: Strength ---- the ability to apply force Force ---- the basis of all motion Power ---- Power is equal to speed + strength Barbell ---- A steel bar measuring 4 –6 feet in length. The bar is used for weight training and body building exercises. Some barbells have a fixed amount of weight on the sides, while other barbells allow you to add and remove weight as you desire. Dynamic action ---- A dynamic effort lift is a form of training that is used to build speed and familiarity with a movement. Typically used in powerlifting for squat, bench, and deadlift. For dynamic work in many cases a trainee will utilize chains or bands to create a progressive load, which forces the trainee to be even more explosive with their lifts in order to maintain bar speed. Isometric action ---- Isometric exercise is practiced by pushing or pulling an immovable object like a wall or bar anchored to the floor. Research has shown that a muscle contraction during Isometric exercise produced more force then a contraction generated by lifting weights. Although research shows that Isometric exercise increases muscle tension significantly, it still fails to change the length of the muscles. Today, it is primarily used for rehabilitation purposes.
