Americans with Disabilities (ADA) 1990 Federal Americans with Disabilities Act provides employment protections for all government and private business employees who are disabled. ADA Provisions Section Purpose Title I. Employment Prohibits employment discrimination Title II. State and Local Governments Requires accessibility and prohibits employment discrimination. Title III. Public Accommodations Requires accessibility to restaurants, theatres, stores, etc. Title IV. Telecommunications Requires accommodations, such as telephone relays for the hearing impaired. Title V. Miscellaneous Catchall section with a variety of technical provisions. Job Requirements by clearly stating bona fide job requirements and essential functions employers prevent discrimination against the disabled. For example, if physical ability is required, the exact specifications must be documented. i.e. ability to lift 40 lbs boxes up to five times per day. Equal Opportunity
