First, as Hollywood strongly bases itself around money, casting a famous actor, even if they are not the intended race or ethnicity for the role, will bring in big money. Sadly, Hollywood is ignorant towards the accuracy of a film and will do just about anything to bring in the most amount of money. Second, having an actor from another racial or ethnic profile playing a role not intended for them can bring about positive and new perspectives on storylines. “Occasionally, “racebending” a character can have a positive effect, such as adding diversity or a new perspective to a story.” (racebending.com) Not only can it be a white person playing a minority’s role, but it also can be a minority playing a white person’s role such as the African American Samuel L.
