Nullification Crisis i. Jackson for state’s rights but not if it led to disunion. ii. 1828 SC proposes nullification in response to Tariff of 1828. Said-each state has a right to decide whether to obey federal law or declare it null and void. iii. Congress passes a new “compromise” tariff and SC nullifies it. Jackson reacts strongly with Force Bill. c. Opposing Parties i. Antifederalists v. Federalists. Antis feared that federal power would become too strong.
