What is an enzyme? Proteins made of amino acids with catalysts that speed up reactions. -all enzymes end in -ase 2. What are the different parts of an enzyme? Substrate-reactant Products-what gets made in the end Active site-where reactant fits Binding site- site on reactant that binds to an enzyme Allosteric site- changes the shape of active site Repressor- binding of a signal molecule that changes the shape of the enzyme’s active site so it can’t bind to the substrate. Competitive inhibitors-blocks active site so substrate can’t bind to enzyme Noncompetitive inhibitor- binds to allosteric site and changes shape of enzyme so it can’t bind to substrate 3.
