Lawrence 1888-1935 Hussein ibn Ali 1856-1931 Ibn Saud (r. 1932-1953) In 1932, Ibn Saud established the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which he and his sons have ruled down to the present. Oil was discovered in 1935 and provided immense wealth to the Saudi ruling class. At the same time, the Saudi Dynasty has supported the extremely conservative Wahhabi Movement led by clerics in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina
