Review “Just pucker and blow: An analysis of corporate whistleblowers” in  Chapter 2. Please respond to the following:  Describe the conflict faced by corporate insiders who discover unethical or  illegal activities within their organization. All of us are responsible for protecting and maintaining the unique reputation of our  Company. Toward that end, this Policy is designed to help clarify the ethical and legal  standards to which we should adhere in performing our work. This Policy applies to all  employees and agents of the Company, including its corporate staff and its operating  units. With respect to any employee covered by a collective bargaining agreement, this  Policy shall be subject to the applicable provisions of such collective bargaining  agreement. The Company may from time to time issue guidelines covering areas within  the scope of the Policy. Additionally, some operating units and departments may issue  specialized guidelines of their own appropriate for their organizations. The New York  Times “Ethical Journalism: A Handbook of Values and Practices for the News and  Editorial Departments” is an example of such specialized guidelines. In the case of  conflict between any such specialized guidelines and this policy, the policy with the  higher standard shall apply. Every employee has a primary business responsibility to the Company and must avoid  conflicts of interest. A conflict of interest arises when an employee takes actions or  enters into relationships that oppose the interests of the Company, harm the Company's  reputation or interfere with the employee's performance or independent judgment when  carrying out any actions on behalf of the Company. Most companies strictly prohibit its  employees from taking any action or entering into any relationship, personal or  professional that creates, or even appears to create, a conflict of interest.
