What true education should do? Stdney J.Harris’s essay entitled “What true education should do” is a compilation of opinions that Sydney outs together in 1986. At that time Sydney was writing a column for the strictly personal. She attempts to prove beyond any doubt that education is not the act of putting knowledge into one‘s mind but taken it out of the mind. Sydney supports her claim with one sided reasoning and evidence that summon her audience to agree and take action for her case. Sydney has a different view about education and knowledge. This author believes education should not be stuffed anymore into pupils minds. To prove his point he uses quotes from important characters that in the past had an impact on people. He used Socrates who was an important philosopher and he used his example to prove his point. “Socrates takes an ignorant slave boy, without a day of schooling, and proves to the amazed observers that the boy really ‘knows’ geometry-because the principles and axioms of geometry are already in his mind, waiting to be call out.”(Strictly personal, Sydney J). If his boy didn’t go to school to learn about geometry, how can he know geometry if no one has taught him? That is what the author is trying to prove. He wants
