Materials Engineering 153 LabNotes Rev. F07 Writing Assignment - Short Engineering Report with Cover Memo Lab 4. The Hall Effect 1. Your Firm Your firm, SemiTech, makes various silicon semiconductor devices. SemiTech purchases large quantities of doped silicon wafers to use in its products. One of your products is a Hall Probe sensor, which outputs a voltage in the presence of a magnetic field. 2. Your Job You are an electrical engineer with SemiTech, working on product fabrication. To save money, your manager wants to buy silicon wafers from a bulk supplier. The bulk supplier promises to undercut your current supplier’s price by 20%, while providing doped silicon of the same quality. At your request, they send you a sample of their doped silicon. You test it to see if it meets your requirements, using a standard testing method, which is described in Lab Notes Chapter 4. 3. The Assignment For the doped silicon to be usable, the dopant concentration must be between 8x10 17 and 2x10 18 carriers per cm 3 . Summarize your test and results in a short engineering report, and direct the report to your manager with a cover letter. The report should be general,
