The course explores and focuses around the managerial functions of management: Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. The course is designed to provide basic skills required in management, how the principles of management developed, the necessary attributes of manager, and coverage of significant management theories. The course will also serve as an introduction to mini case studies, which involves each group working as a management team. Learning in the class will be facilitated through the use of vehicles such as textbook readings, class discussion, exercises/activities, cases, self quizzes and lectures. 2) Course Textbook(s)/ Resources: a) Text books The following text is required for the course: Andrew J. DuBrin (2009). Essentials of Management (8th Edition). South- Western Cengage Learning. Note: Lecturers are encouraged to compare case studies of chapters in the version 8th and version 9th of the text book and use the better cases. b) Reference books or resources: Website: www.academic.cengage.com c) Coverage: 6 weeks = 1 block, 1 week = 5 studying days, 1 day = 2 periods, 1 period = 45 mins
