Discussion: In this experiment the effects of temperature and concentration on cell potentials of galvanic cells, which showed that the cell potential is dependent on these two factors. In the experiment these effects were tested on the reactions of zinc and copper and also compared to the reaction of lead and copper. Part 1: Zn(s)+Cu 2+ (aq) Cu(s)+Zn 2+ (aq) Part 2: Pb(s)+ Cu 2+ (aq) Cu(s)+Pb 2+ (aq) In part one of the experiment, the concentrations of the solutions were changed to observe the effect on the cell potential from the reaction of zinc and copper. The first trial both concentrations were the same (1 M), the second had a smaller zinc concentration (.1M), and the third a smaller copper concentration (.1M). The measured values were then compared to the calculated values, using Nernst’s equation, which calculated the cell potential as a function of concentration.
