CIVL 2810 Construction Materials Assignment #2 Due on 12 March 2012 (Monday) Please hand in your homework to the box named Civil 2810 in front of TA Office (Room 2126, Lift 19) before the due date 1. The truss is a common structure utilized in civil engineering and composed with bars in which only uniaxial force (either tension or compression) is carried. The truss shown in the following figure is made of steel. It is loaded as shown in the figure (the case is very similar to the system in Fig. 2.8 in the classnotes). The cross sectional area of the steel bars is 580 mm 2 (three bars have the same cross section). The yield stress is 300 MPa and the Young’s modulus E=200 GPa.
