A GIS BASED ANALYSIS ON THE ACCESSIBILITY OF FIRE
HAZARD: A CASE STUDY OF OLD TOWN IN DHAKA

Background
In Dhaka city, fire hazard is very common phenomena which is now becoming concerning matter. The
concern arises from the ground of accessibility in narrow roads or not available enough water, or not
having enough awareness among people to use human as resources. In recent, major attention drawn to
the part of old Dhaka city where Chakbazar incident took place. Previously, there was another fire
incident taken place in Nimtoli in Sakharibazar. Dhaka is at the bank of Burighanga river which involves
the increasing of rapid development of small industries. Small industries are responsible for rapid fire
incidences day by day (Alam, & Baroi, 2004). Small stakeholders are using massive storage in old Dhaka
residential areas for storing their raw materials.
The fire incidents are not only fault of building
structure. At some point, some incidents had been happened for not having enough road width to enter
fire distinguisher car to reach at core point of the accident. There is another reason to identify the
