Fundamentals: “Eat Less, Burn More” Energy intake = energy expenditure The way to lose weight is to go into negative energy balance   work with both  sides of equation, reducing intake, and increasing expenditure Activity Increase energy expenditure Incorporate activity into normal routine and set time aside for exercise  It is not necessary to be continually active to get the benefits Duration, no matter how divided, consumes the same amount of calories.  However, cardiovascular benefits will not be the same based on duration Any time you raise heart rate and breathing, you are burning calories at a high  rate   both directly proportional to energy consumption Strength exercise rarely consume many calories during exercise, but have a great  long-term effect on weight
