CRITICAL THINKING SHEET 4 EVALUATING REASONING (II) 1. Since Semra Ozal used to be married to Turgut Ozal, it is important that we listen to her views on the policies of Kemal Dervis. 2. The whole idea of ‘Gay Rights’ is misguided. Homosexuals are either mentally ill, in which case they should be cured, or morally depraved, in which case they should be punished. 3. It is unfair to say that the government is not succeeding in the fight against the economic crisis. The government is doing everything it can to tackle this serious problem. 4. Legalising cannabis would be a disaster. Studies show that there is a 70% chance of cannabis smokers going on to take hard drugs. 5. Turkey can either enter the European Union as a full and equal member or it can drift off into isolation, cut off from the West and unable to cooperate with its Middle East neighbours. 6. It is disturbing to see young Turkish people wearing blue jeans, drinking coca-cola and listening to western pop music. When we consider the appalling divorce rates, drug abuse and violence in American society, it is obvious that we should not allow our young people to be corrupted by these symbols of cultural imperialism. What’s wrong in wearing shalvar, drinking ayran and listening to Turkish folk music? 7.
