Abstract This project entails a detailed description of the skeleton of an automobile’s door; its materials, producers, market, an overview and an analysis of the manufacturing processes and equipment used for it. The interview entails the answers of questions given by a Renault executive about alternative processes with their pros and cons to be discussed as well as technological differences between the old and new manufacturing methods, process parameters and how they are selected, their effects on quality and cost. 3

1. Introduction An automobile is a complex product with many and various components. One of complicated and detailed parts of it is the door. Each automobile has 5 doors; two front and two back doors and the hatch. An automobile’s door has two parts; the inner and the outer, where the inner part is called to be the undercoat and the outer part to be the outer coat. A door itself has two many details and parts such as the window glass, the rods and electrical cables inside it, locks, handles etc. For the ease of examination the skeleton of an automobile’s door was chosen for this project. Automobile manufacturer’s produce tend to produce the big parts of the automobile themselves. The factory we have cooperated works in a work to order basis, meaning that the company produces an automobile when there is demand for one. So the manufacturing of the skeleton of an automobile’s door takes place at the factory of Renault Oyak A.S. when there is demand for a Megane –the proposed automobile type was Clio 3, the following information in the project entails the manufacturing of Megane.- 1.1 About Renault Oyak A.S. Mais was founded in 1968 in Ankara with 20 million capitals, whose 97.5 percent was paid by, one of the founder partner, Oyak. Mais became a limited company and the quarters of Mais moved to Bursa in the September of 1968, which later moved to Istanbul in 1970. Mais presented the first Renault marked automobile to the Turkish auto-market in 1971. In 1974 Oyak Sigorta got the 2.5 share of Tukas. The local share which consisted of Oyak and Oyak sigorta was changed to be 93 percent with the rearrangement in 1993 where the rest assigned to Renault S.A. The sharing was determined to be 51 percent of Oyak and 49 percent of Renault in 1997.
