2Literacy in Academically Diverse Classrooms Reflective EssayLiteracy instruction is an important factor in a students’ education. Students need to be proficient readers to be successful in not only literacy but all other content areas. When I decidedto further my education and enroll in Walden’s Reading and Math program, I was sure that there was not much more that I could learn about teaching literacy. Literacy has always been the area of my strength as a student and as a teacher. Although literacy is my strength, sense enrolling here at Walden I have been able to observe areas of my teaching pedagogy that I can grow in andareas that are nonexistent. Reading and teaching are processes that are continuous and all good teaching first starts with the teacher’s knowledge of content (Reutzel & Cooter, 2019).
