Joel Diaz ENC 1101 – MWF/12:20-1:10 09/09/09 McLawhorn Journal Assignment #1 The Oprah Effect The intended audience of “The Oprah Effect” is a group of people who have not heard of Oprah, or have not realized her influence. It also appeals to businesses that can possibly use her to promote them. Her endorsement can produce millions of new customers. The audience reads Essence, so most of the readers are African American women. “The Oprah Effect” is informative about her influence, and tries to make the reader realize how powerful she is. It talks about how she can affect some areas of popular culture. She uses her TV show and her magazine to show what is “in” and what is “out”.
