ENC 1101 – MWF/12:20 09/21/09 McLawhorn Constructed Bodies, Deconstructing Ads The essay Constructed Bodies, Deconstructing Ads: Sexism in Advertising by Anthony J. Cortese is an informative essay. It appeals to college students and anyone that is interested in advertisement. He brings it up as a contemporary social problem, so it appeals to women who tries to perfect themselves, as well as men who workout to look muscular. The essay talks about sexism in advertising and the way men and women are portrayed. It talks about how advertisement affects the culture and the portrayal of men and women. Women are portrayed as slender, long –legged and tall and are displayed with an unrealistic standard of beauty. Men are portrayed as muscular, tall, and fit. These standards have lead to anorexia in women and muscular deformity in men. The author presents sexism in advertising as a problem and in need of change. Joel Diaz
