Babbling only in sounds of the language(s) to which baby is exposed: by 9 mos. 3. Do deaf babies babble? Yes. Similar to hearing babies Deaf babies whose parents sign and dont speak babble with hands & fingers B. First words 1. Understanding words develops faster than using words. 2. Use 1 st word: by 10-15 mos. (~1 year) 3. In U.S.: 1 st words often more nouns than verbs, but less so in countries where parents do less pointing & naming, and less so where parents stress actions (verbs) (Japan) 4.
